  • Simmons claims singles crown

    Leanna Begley may have lost but it was still a dream come true.

    Begley faced teammate Kameron Simmons in the singles final of the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament last week in a match up they've both dreamed of.

    "Kameron told me that when she and Leanna were young tennis players they used to dream that one day they would be playing in the finals of the conference tournament. This year their dream came true. I'm extremely proud of them," Lady Knights Head Coach Angela Holt said.

  • Knights upset Campbellsville

    The Marion County High School baseball team kept themselves in the mix for a good seed in the 20th District tournament by beating Campbellsville and Adair County last week.

    Campbellsville had previously beaten the Knights 8-2 at Hourigan Field but Eric Miles pitched a gem from the mound and turned it around for Marion County.

    "That was an unbelievable game for us. The kids really performed well and executed. Eric Miles was fantastic on the mound," Knights Head Coach Chad Spalding said.

  • Lancers gun down Tankers

    The Lebanon Lancers took out the Harrodsburg Tankers, a first year team in the Kentucky Basketball Development League, by a score of 104-85 at the Roby Dome on Friday night.

    Head Coach Mark Bell said Elton Scott was a leader by example.

    "It was probably his best game since he started this year," he said. "Once we put two whole halves together we'll be all right."

    The Lancers trounced the first year team that is playing without a coach right now.

  • Track team competes in three...

    Marion County High School track coach Robby Peterson is excited after a flurry of meets in the last two weeks.

    "Everybody's times have gotten lower and better. We're improving, which is good," he said. "We're making a good push, getting ready for the region."

    MCHS will host the region track meet on May 16. The events kick off at 11 a.m. and will conclude sometime around 4 p.m.

    On Friday the boys squad finished seventh out of 12 squads in the Green County Invitational with 43 points. Daviess County won the meet with 125 points.

  • Knights test their mettle at KOB

    The Marion County High School boys tennis team tested themselves against some of the state's toughest competition last weekend at the 209 Forcht Bank King of the Bluegrass Tennis Team Championships held at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Complex at the University of Louisville.

    "This was an exciting event for the team to participate in because of the caliber level of tennis play we knew we would face," Head Coach Beverly Thomas said.

    The second round of play had MCHS teamed with Highlands.

  • Girls tennis picks up steam

    The Marion County High School girls tennis team is picking up steam heading into conference tournament play.

    The Lady Knights beat Campbellsville 3-2 and Adair County 4-0 last week. They lost to Central Hardin 5-0.

    "We continue to do well against conference opponents," Lady Knights Head Coach Angela Holt said. "I was impressed with Kameron (Simmons) and Leanna (Begley) for their play in the Campbellsville match. Both girls managed to control the tempo of the match to favor their style."

  • Lady's lose Reynolds

    The end of a tough week for the Marion County High School softball team was only made worse by the loss of Ann Morgan Reynolds.

    "We lost 14-4 but more than that we lost a steady defensive player and one of the better hitters during the game," Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby said. "Ann Morgan Reynolds will be out the rest of the season with a broken ankle. It really hurts us as a team as she was very vital both offensively and more importantly defensively. We have to regroup and continue to improve."

  • Boys tennis picks up two wins

    The Marion County High School boys tennis team mixed up their strategy on their way to picking up two wins over John Hardin and Central Hardin in region play last week.

    "We did a mix up with players this week. Austin Spalding was paired with Trey Hamilton for doubles play and Alex Mayo was moved to number three singles," Head Coach Beverly Thomas said. "As a team, our goal for the season was to have members of our team moving on to state tournament play. We are in a very strong region and competition is strong in both singles and doubles."

  • Cecil wins Bike and Hike 5K

    Joe Pat Cecil was the overall winner and in the 2009 Family Bike and Hike on Saturday morning at Graham Memorial Park. Cecil finished at 21:35, over a minute faster than the second place runner.     

    Leslie Franken was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 26:00. She came in eighth place overall.

    Logan Vaughn, 11, was the first youth male youth participant to come in. Vaughn ran a scorching time of 24:45. He finished sixth overall in a race with 98 participants.

  • Baseball faces another busy week

    The Marion County High School baseball team faces another challenging week. They face another round of district opponents as they jockey for tournament position.

    The Knights opened the week on Tuesday against Adair County on the road. Results were unknown at press time.

    On Wednesday the Knights host Washington County High School at 5:30 p.m. The Knights won the first game at Washington County 3-2.
