  • Milby will take over as softball...

Trent Milby is entering a new but familiar situation.

Milby takes over this season as the Marion County High School softball head coach, replacing Brenda McIlvoy. Like the girls basketball team he coaches, the Marion County softball team lacks an elder stateswoman on the practice field.

This year's Lady Knights round ball squad featured one senior, Dee Johnson. This year's Lady Knights hit squad has no seniors and only two juniors.

  • Track team hopes to build on...

Last season the Marion County High School track team sent a few individuals to the state meet. This year, those athletes hope to build on their accomplishments.

  • Knights baseball looks to...

After graduating over half of its key players, the Marion County High School Knights baseball team will try to fill those shoes with many returnees that have little or no varsity experience. • Girls tennis team features no...

Marion County High School girls tennis coach Angela Holt is bringing back a very young squad this season that features no seniors and only two juniors.

What experience the Lady Knights does have matters.

"Probably at the top of our varsity players are (juniors) Kameron Simmons and Leanna Begley. Leanna's strength is her power. Kameron has a never say die attitude. I expect her to play in long matches and wear her opponents down," Holt said. "They'll both probably play singles but it may change as the season goes along."

  • Marion County girls win district...

The Lady Knights improved to 25-6 with at win over host Adair County in the district finals Friday, 63-45.

"In the first half, we came out and executed better than we've executed probably in two or three years," Marion County girls basketball coach Trent Milby said.

In the second half, the Lady Knight kept Adair County from staging a comeback to clinch the district title.

"It really was a good win," Milby said.

  • Q & A with former athlete...

Max Manning is a 2008 graduate from Marion County High School who is currently playing golf at Centre College in Danville.

What sports did you play while you were at MCHS? What positions? At MCHS I played golf all four years and always played the number one spot. I also played tennis my freshman, junior and senior years. I played number two doubles the whole time with Jay Keupers, Joseph George and Alex Mayo, respectively.

  • North Hardin, Adair County vie...

The participating teams didn't disappoint in one of the most competitive and highly anticipated Fifth Region boys basketball tournaments in recent memory.

North Hardin (22-9) and Adair County (25-7) faced off Tuesday night at the Roby Dome for the Fifth Region championship and a trip to the boys state tournament.

The Trojans and the Indians faced off in January and North Hardin prevailed 53-50 at home.

  • Lady Knights fall to E'town...

The Lady Knights may be young but they didn't show it against a seasoned Elizabethtown team on Saturday night during the Fifth Region final at Nelson County High School.

Marion County traded leads with the Lady Panthers all night despite Makayla Epps getting shut out after scoring 19 points the night before.

The Lady Knights couldn't close the gap and lost 50-46. The Lady Panthers advanced to the state tournament for the third time in four years.

  • Lady Knights advance to region...

The Marion County Lady Knights rallied from eight points behind to steal a victory from the Green County Lady Dragons on Friday night at Nelson County High School in the Fifth Region tournament semi-final.

Makayla Epps willed her team to victory, scoring 12 fourth quarter points to propel the Lady Knights into the region final for the first time since at least 1999.

The Lady Knights lost to Elizabethtown by 26 points earlier in the season at the Roby Dome and look to avenge that loss and advance to the state tournament.

  • Lady Knights featured on ESPN.com

Recently, local hoopsters were featured on one of the most prestigious sports websites in the land: ESPN.com.
