Several members of the Marion County High School boys basketball team were honored recently at the post-season banquet, including senior Christopher Southall who took home season MVP honors.

  • Washington County unveils '...

In a solid week for the Marion County High School boys tennis team, weather and a surprise addition to the Washington County roster made for a colorful start to the season.

Washington County added two previously home schooled players to their roster, putting them to work for the first time against Marion County.

  • Lady Knights control the court

The Marion County High School girls tennis team wrapped up a 4-2 record after two weeks of play. A match against Mercer County wasn't finished due to weather.

"Everybody is at this point pretty much doing what I expected. We're still trying to get our seeding all the way through," Head Coach Angela Holt said. "We just now got to where there are no conflicts with band. They're pretty much where I figured where they would be. They're all very enthusiastic and having fun. They're working at it pretty hard."

  • Lancers open season April 11

The Lebanon Lancers, central Kentucky's semi-pro basketball team, open the 2009 season at home against the Cincinnati Stallions, the KBDL's newest team, on April 11. Season tickets are now on sale for Lancers games.

  • Sluggers off to strong 4-2 start

With a squad only boasting four seniors, Marion County High School baseball Head Coach Chad Spalding and crew are feeling good about being 4-2 after two weeks of play.

"I'll take four wins with the weather conditions we've been having. If things went a little bit differently we're looking at possibly being 6-0," Spalding said.

The Knights led late in both losses, with big innings upending them each time.

A big inning helped push the Knights past a solid Washington County squad in a 3-2 win, which is something Spalding teaches his players.

  • First track meet cut short

The Marion County High School track and field team wouldn't be able to complete their first meet of the season in Green County due to inclement weather.

That wouldn't stop the Knights and Lady Knights from putting on a strong showing.

  • Softball team 4-4 heading into...

Three wins last week helped end a three game opening skid and point the Marion County High School softball team in the right direction under new coach Trent Milby.

"We're getting better. We won four of five this week," Milby said. "We're starting to hit the ball better. We lost some close games but then started hitting the ball better and playing good defense and that equals wins. We're working on changing their mentality to win every game instead of playing just for fun."

  • Knights' campaign starts...

Some old and new faces will greet the Marion County High School baseball team this week as they begin their quest for solid footing in the 20th District and Fifth Region standings.

The Knights are coming off a successful scrimmage against Hart County in which they dominated.

Five pitchers (Tyler Wright, Justin Buckman, Eric Miles, David Raley and Paul Spalding) had a chance on the mound.

  • Rain dilutes spring practice

Though spring practice went nearly perfect for nine days, the tenth day was a spoiler for Marion County High School football Head Coach Jeff Robbins and the Knights.

Rain and dormant grass sent Robbins and company seeking shelter in the fitness center Friday instead of ending spring practice with the annual intra squad Maroon - White scrimmage.

"If it was the fall and we needed to go out, we go out. The safety of the kids and concern for kids is the number one factor," Robbins said.

  • Lady Knights start strong

The Marion County Lady Knights girl's tennis team started their season strong despite a lack of senior leadership.

Head Coach Angela Holt and her team finished the week with two wins and one loss, falling to a tough Casey County High School team.

Sixth grader Alyssa Farmer, the number three singles player had a strong season debut by going winning two and losing one for the week.

Lauren Buckman and Taylor Corbett played solid as a doubles team, also going two and one on the week.
