  • Church basketball league sign-...

    The Elkhorn Baptist Church Men's Basketball League will be holding their annual league starting Feb 5, with signups. Anyone wishing to play must attend this night.

    All new players must play two 10-minute quarters for evaluation to be placed on a team.

    The league will cost $40 per player and the league will run about 9-11 weeks.

    All games will be played on Thursday nights. (There is a possibility the season ending tournament could be played on Saturday morning). This league is for ages 21 and over.

  • Teams scramble to make up games

    Last month's ice storm have teams playing a flurry of games over the next week.

    The Knights will play four games in five days while the Lady Knights will play five games in six days.

    The Lady Knights begin a grueling series of games with North Hardin (19-3) on Thursday night at North Hardin.

    North Hardin is a top three team in the region and ranked 11th in the Litkenhous Ratings.

    Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at North Hardin on Thursday.

  • Youth soccer sign-ups begin Feb...

    Marion County Youth Soccer will begin having spring sign ups every Friday in February for three Fridays in a row - Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb 20. Registration will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the new building at the new park expansion at Graham Memorial Park. If kids played in the fall they do not have to sign up again.

    Parents should be getting a call from a coach soon to verify if your child will be playing in the spring.

  • Ice storm freezes hoops action

    No games were played last week in Marion County as Mother Nature wreaked havoc all over the state.

    Girls games against Nelson County and Bardstown were cancelled as well as boys games against Christian Academy of Louisville, Nelson County and Elizabethtown.

    Two middle schools, St. Charles and St. Augustine, faced tournament cancellations. The teams were supposed to tip off early in the week at Bardstown Middle School. Games hadn't been rescheduled as of press time.

  • McKay to step down

    A man who has been a fixture of the Marion County High School boys basketball team will step down after this season.

    Josh McKay, a former head coach and long time assistant for the Knights, recently filed his paperwork to resign at the end of the season.

    McKay served as a head coach in the mid 1970s and returned as an assistant coach in the early to mid 1980s for Tim Davis.

    Since then, McKay has prowled the sidelines for every other coach in the program's history including Davis, Kelly Wells, Greg Williams, Brad Fraser and current Head Coach Tim Peterson.

  • Locals face Taylor on Friday

    If weather permits, the Knights and Lady Knights basketball teams will have a busy week.

    The ladies open the week with a home game against Elizabethtown (16-2), who is a Fifth Region contender. The game will prove to be a test of strength for the girls. Elizabethtown is the reigning tournament champion and features top players in the region with senior Alex Jones and sophomore Natalie Greenwell.

    The Lady Knights are scheduled to tip off against Elizabethtown at the Roby Dome on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

  • Lady Knights beat Lady Cards

    The Marion County Lady Knights (16-4) took care of business as usual Friday night at the Roby Dome, closing out district opponent Taylor County (10-11) early and finishing district play unbeaten.

    "I think our speed hurts them," Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby said. "They don't have a true point guard. They're just not athletic enough and they have trouble against our press. We play them in the first round of tournament and we have to be ready to go or anything can happen."

  • Donkey basketball coming to Roby...

    Tired of watching regular basketball games? Don't fret. The Marion County High School girls basketball team is hosting a donkey basketball game at the Roby Dome on Feb. 21.

    What's donkey basketball? Easy. It's basketball played while riding donkeys, silly.

    Four teams (Marion County High School, TG Kentucky, Spring View Hospital and the Area Technical Center) will compete in four-on-four battles while atop stubborn four-legged friends.

  • Aquaknights compete in regional...

    The Marion County High School swim team competed in the Region 3 Swimming and Diving Championship held in Versailles on Feb. 6-7.

    "Despite the weather cutting into critical practice time, we had a really good season," said Coach Colleen Ryan. "Everybody improved their times at regionals and all worked really hard. I'm really proud of Tommy Carrico, who broke the high school 100 freestyle record at regionals, and Annaliece Mattingly, who broke the high school 100 backstroke record at the Hardin Invitational Meet in January. I'm looking forward to next season."

  • Roby Dome scoreboard clocks out

    After several problems throughout this season, the scoreboard at the Roby Dome officially clocked out on Friday night during the Knights game against Taylor County, leaving the teams in the dark about the score and time remaining.

    "This is my third year as athletic director and I've never had any clock issues as a coach or an athletic director," Stacey Hall, Marion County High School athletic director, said. "I've had floor issues but never clock issues."
