  • Just as Sweet!

    The Marion County Lady Knights avenged a loss and claim their second consecutive Fifth Region championship by defeating Elizabethtown, 53-52, Saturday night.

    With the win, the Lady Knights (25-6) will also be making their second consecutive trip to the Sweet Sixteen in Bowling Green.

    Marion County survived a second-quarter scoring drought of nearly four and half minutes, made a second half comeback, and benefitted from some clutch free throw shooting in the final minute.

    Elizabethtown (29-4) defeated Marion County on Feb. 3 in a game at Elizabethtown.

    The Marion County Lady Knights are one win away from a return trip the Sweet Sixteen, but they will have to defeat Elizabethtown to get there.

    Marion County (24-6) and Elizabethtown (29-3) will play for the Fifth Region championship at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Roby Dome.

    Marion County defeated Nelson County (18-13) in the first semifinal game Friday night, 53-47. Elizabethtown defeated LaRue County (27-4) in the other semifinal, 56-44.

    The Marion County boys basketball team edged out LaRue County March 2 in the first round of the Fifth Region tournament, 55-53.

    The Knights (16-12) advance to the regional semifinals. They will play Bardstown (22-4) at 4:30 p.m. Central time (5:30 p.m. Eastern) Monday, March 7, at Green County High School.

    Bardstown defeated John Hardin in their opening round match-up, 62-57.

  • Lady Knights named to All-...

    At the conclusion of the 20th District Tournament, several Lady Knights players were named to the regular season and postseason all-district teams.  
    Marion County High School junior Emily Fenwick was named to the 20th District All-Academic team along with Hope Wiggington from Taylor County, McKenzie Martin from Adair County and Murphy Lanham from Campbellsville.

    After the final game of the boys 20th District tournament, several Marion County Knight players were recognized for their performances during regular season and postseason play.
    Senior Josh Brockman received the 20th District All-Academic team honors along with Matthew Chewning from Taylor County, Jon Hansel from Adair County, and Taylor Levi from Campbellsville.
    Three Knights were recognized for the 20th District All-Season team.  They included senior Deshawn Douglas and juniors Carlos Litsey and John Southall.

    The Marion County Lady Knights volleyball team held their annual awards banquet at Marion County High School Nov. 30, 2010. Several different players received awards during this event for their performances on the court this season.

    The Marion County Knights and the Taylor County Cardinals battled back and forth throughout the final game of the 20th District tournament Saturday night in the Roby Dome, but the Knights were never able to overcome the Cardinal attack. Senior Josh Brockman led the way for Marion County putting in 15 points while junior Carlos Litsey chipped in 10. The Knights would never lead after 5:33 in the opening quarter and went on to lose the game by five points with a final score of 49-44.
