Trevor Mattingly, son of Lisa Mattingly, took his first deer during youth season while hunting with his grandfather, Keith Brock.

  • Changing of the guard

Jessica and I attended the last game of the 2012 football season Friday night. I have to admit, I'm going to miss making those road trips to the away games, and I know Jessica will miss standing on those sometimes frigid sidelines when it's drizzling rain and taking photographs. OK, so maybe I am kidding about that last part, but I know that she's a football fan at heart, and will miss watching the Knights compete on the football field.

The Marion County High School cross country team traveled to Bowling Green to compete in the class AA region 2 championship meet Saturday. The team hoped to qualify for state competition, but came up a bit short. However, Morgan Avritt was able to qualify as an individual. Avritt finished 23rd overall in the girls 5k run.

  • Football Knights fall to Lakers

The Marion County High School football team headed to Russell Springs to take on Russell County in the opening round of the playoffs Friday. Russell County entered the game 10-0, and quickly showed why they haven't lost a game this season. After just one quarter of play, the Lakers led 28-0, and never looked back.

The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association announced the 2012 All-State Teams Wednesday, with two Marion County Lady Knight volleyball players earning honors. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and Logan Powell, both seniors, were named to the 2012 KVCA Second-Team All-State (AA). According to Marion County Head Coach David Hibbard, this was the first time ever for Marion County that two players were named to an All-State team.

  • KCCR race winner

Jeremy Morris competed in the KCCR racing event held in Lebanon recently. He won the "First Year" category.

  • Big cool down

Well, since the last time that I wrote a column, three different Marion County sports teams have seen their season come to a close.
Both soccer teams lost their first round 5th Region tournament games, the girls team to Bardstown and the boys team to Central Hardin. The volleyball team, after winning their first round game of the regional tournament against LaRue County, fell to a Central Hardin team that went on to win the 5th Region tournament.
