  • Good start for MC all-stars

    Marion County is the defending state champions in the 9-10 year old Little League softball division, and this year’s team took the first step toward defending that title on Saturday.
    Marion County’s 9-10 all-stars defeated Washington County, 12-2, in the first round of the district tournament in Russellville.
    Marion County pounced on top of Washington County, scoring seven runs in the first inning and extending its lead to 11-0 after two innings of play. The game was called after four innings due to the 10-run rule.

  • Make memories, go fishing

    Had a chance to go fishing with about two dozen Girl Scouts Friday. We caught a bunch of sunfish on little worms. That’s if you call two and three-inch fish fun to catch. Well, Jeremy Bowman and I got to see first-hand how much excitement a fish that size can generate. The squeals and laughter were genuine and brought back some pleasant memories.

  • Understanding sports concussions

    The Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky, along with Bob O’Daniel, will host an event entitled, “Understanding sports concussions” at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 25, at Angelic Hall in Lebanon. The event will help those attending to identify symptoms consistent with a concussion and how to properly treat the athlete who has signs of a concussion.

    Ever since he could hold a bat, Travis Wiser, 12, of Lebanon has been playing baseball. In fact, he has already managed to play on a professional field.

  • New challenge for new coach

    Before he was named the new baseball coach at Marion County High School, Patrick Campbell had a nonchalant attitude about interest in the position when he spoke to his father Eugene.

    But that changed when the 2003 MCHS graduate was selected to head the program after the resignation of Chad Spalding.
