  • Girls fall to Mercy on last...

    The Marion County Lady Knights traveled to Bellarmine University to take on the No. 2 ranked Mercy Academy Jaguars in the Louisville Invitational Tournament Friday afternoon. After being down by seven points at halftime, the Lady Knights played neck and neck with the Jaguars in the second half, but suffered the heartbreaking defeat of just two points when Mercy’s Whitney Hartlage hit the game winning shot at the buzzer.

  • Knights dominate Cardinals

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team traveled to Bardstown to play the Nelson County Cardinals Friday.
    After starting off the first half pretty evenly matched, the Knights used a monstrous third quarter to give themselves a nice advantage over the Cardinals, eventually going on to win the game by a final score of 60-49. Junior John Southall paced the way for the Knights with a career high 21 points. Junior Carlos Litsey helped the Knights’ cause with another double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

  • Five games are on tap for this...

    Tomorrow night, the Lady Knights will be back at home to face a very tough Elizabethtown squad. The Lady Panthers are currently ranked in the top 10 in the state along with the Lady Knights. Elizabethtown is ranked ahead of Marion County in 5th region rankings. Elizabethtown currently holds a record of 19-1 with their only loss coming to DuPont Manual in the Republic Bank Classic. The Lady Knights also lost to DuPont Manual Saturday.

  • Sports Briefs

    State tournament draw held
    Friday, the draw for the position of the teams in the Sweet 16 state tournaments was held. In the girls drawing, the 5th region was paired up against the 10th region in a game to be played at 9 p.m. eastern time on Wednesday March 9 at E.A. Diddle arena in Bowling Green.

  • Knights’ streak snapped

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team played the Elizabethtown Panthers on the road Saturday. Early foul trouble to key inside players allowed Elizabethtown’s big men to run wild and score 24 points each. Sophomore Vincent Collins tallied a double-double after picking up three fouls in the first half with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Josh Brockman and junior John Southall each chipped in a team high 12 points in the loss.

  • Knights claim top spot

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team took on the Adair County Indians at the Roby Dome on Tuesday of last week. Despite a major comeback from the Indians, the Knights held on to defeat Adair County by a final score of 55-48 to claim the top spot in the district standings. Senior Deshawn Douglas paced the way for the Knights with a team high 18 points.
    The win put the Knights on top of the district standings.

  • Essex wins trip

    The Marion County Lady Knights hosted the 2011 Autism Awareness Classic on Jan. 14-15.
    A portion of the money raised from the classic went toward an autistic family, that were selected in a drawing, to have an all-expense paid trip to an indoor water park for three days and two nights.

  • AquaKnights win home meet

    The Marion County High swim team hosted fellow “home” teams, Bethlehem and Nelson County swim teams at the Lebanon Aquatic Center Tuesday, Jan. 18.  All three teams hold practice at the Lebanon Aquatic Center.
    Marion County girls and boys defeated their opponents.
    The girls’ scores were Marion 37, Bethlehem 35, Nelson 12.
    The boys’ scores were Marion 47, Bethlehem 16, Nelson 13.
    “I was very happy with the swimmers’ performances,” said Coach Colleen Ryan.
