The Marion County Lady Knights tennis team had an outstanding week of tennis, winning the Heartland Conference title on Monday of last week and beating John Hardin at home last Thursday. The doubles team of sophomores Madison Cassidy and Elyssa Holt took the title of Heartland Conference doubles champions for the second year in a row, while teammate Olivia Thompson ended as the singles runner-up in the tournament.
The Marion County Knights tennis team captured the Heartland Conference title and the victory over John Hardin with a week of spectacular play.
Marion County’s No. 1 singles player, Alex Spalding, became the singles champion of the tournament while teammate Ryker Cassidy took the runner-up spot after losing to Spalding in the final round. Marion County’s No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Burdette and Noah Swencki cruised to an undefeated Heartland Conference doubles crown.
The Marion County Knights baseball team managed to squeeze in two games at the end of last week after a rash of rainouts early in the week. The Knights played Taylor County on Friday and Shelby County on Saturday, both at Hourigan Field. Marion County came out of these two contests with a record of 1-1, taking their overall record to 7-8.
During Friday’s Panther Twilight Invitational track meet at Elizabethtown, sophomore Brooks Divine took what Head Coach Robby Peterson described as “a nasty fall” on the pole vault event which caused some injuries that will most likely sideline Divine for the rest of the season. According to Divine’s mother, Brooks suffered some pulled ligaments in his neck and a fractured rib.

The Rays behind Kenlee Stouts three hits, four runs scored and five RBI’s improved their record to 3 and 1. Jaci Benningfield stuck out nine for the Rays. Sarah Clark scored three runs for the Rangers.
