    Boys Little League All-Star State Tournament at Prestonsburg

  • State Champs!

    The girls 9- and 10-year-old Marion County All-Star team made history by becoming the first All-Star softball team to win the state championship, bringing home a banner to Marion County. The team advanced to the state championship game by going 2-1 in pool play, only losing to North Oldham.  However, in the championship game of the tournament, the locals would defeat North Oldham by a final score of 2-1 to take home the crown.

  • Parade honoring 9-10 state...

    A celebratory parade for the state championship 9-10-year-old girls All-Star softball team is planned for July 19. The parade will begin at Marion County High School at 6 p.m. before concluding at Lebanon Elementary School. Everyone is invited to come out and show their support for the team.

  • Voice of the basketball Knights...

    Since 1987, Jerry Reynolds has announced boys basketball games at Marion County High School. During the past 26 seasons, Reynolds has seen a lot of basketball and two teams he remembers the most during his tenure.
    "The 1992 and 1993 teams stand out in my mind because they went to state," he said. "In 1992, we went to the state for the first time in school history, and in 1993, we won the state championship. It just doesn't get any better than that."

    As I prepare to write this week’s article I can’t help but think that the “getting’ ready” i.e. Planning, projecting and just dreaming, about any activity is almost as exciting as performing the activity itself.
    Case in point: Duck and goose hunting!
    I just found out I (we) have an “in” at Ballard County this fall. So here it is the middle of July and I’m thinking about our new place to hunt in December!

  • Fall soccer registration set for...

    The Marion County Youth Soccer Association is preparing for the fall season.
    Registration for the upcoming season will be held July 28 and Aug. 4. Registration forms will be accepted both days from 9 a.m. to noon at the Graham Memorial Park Soccer Complex on Fairground Road.
    The deadline to register is Aug. 7.
    When you sign up, please bring completed registration forms, medical release form signed by a notary and registration fee with you, or mail the forms to:

    The Marion County 8 and under baseball team finished second in a tournament held June 30 and July 1 in Stanford.     The Lebanon Lumber Jaxx won the 11-12-year-old division of the Summer Slam at Graham Memorial Park over the weekend.   • 11-12 baseball team heading to...

    The Marion County 11-12 boys all-star baseball team is on its way to the state tournament.

    The Marion County squad defeated Russell County, 5-1, to win the District 5 championship Tuesday night.

    The boys 11-12 state Little League tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday, July 21, in Prestonburg. Marion County is scheduled to face the District 3 champion at 6 p.m. July 21 at Stone Crest Field #1.
