Two middle school softball teams have been started in Marion County. “Home” games are played at the lower field at Graham Memorial Park, and play began April 15.
According to Troy Overstreet, team one was 5-3 (4-3 in conference) and team two was 7-2 (5-2 in conference) through Thursday.
Overstreet added that Allison Maupin pitched a perfect game April 22 against St. Dominic, striking out seven of the 12 batters she faced.
Friday the teams played at Bardstown and Saturday the team played at St. Dominic.
The National Football League held its annual draft recently. Eric Fisher from Central Michigan was selected as the first overall pick of the draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Three quarterbacks were selected in rounds 1-3, with only one going in the first round. In the later rounds, the quarterbacks started coming off the board.

The Mets begin the season 4-0 with another close win. Olivia Ford had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs for the Mets. Avery Smith reached base successfully on all three of her at bats and scored two runs for the Reds.
Big derby weekend coming up. For a lot of us this means “Derby parties.” Whether you have a horse to bet on, or just taking an opportunity to hang with some friends, please be safe!
Along with the parties will be some alcohol consumption by many. I don’t pass judgment, as long as you’re of age. So, all I’ve got to say is if you drink don’t ruin a great time by driving!
The turkey hunting has been on my back burner for the last week. Meetings, doctor visits and the weather sure cut into my hunting.
Jailyn Allen, age 8, killed her first turkey. It weighed 21.5-pounds, had a 9.5-inch beard and 1-inch spurs. She is the daughter of Joey and Gretta Allen of Lebanon.
Wesley Brady, son of Jimmy and Jeanna Brady of Loretto, got this 22-pound turkey with his papa Joe in Bradfordsville. It had a 10 ¼-inch beard and 1 ¼-inch spurs.

A total of 124 cyclists and runners participated in the annual Family Bike and Hike 5k Run/Walk Saturday, April 20, in Lebanon. The event is hosted by the Marion County Fitness and Nutrition Coalition.
The Marion County Lady Knights softball team won district home games against Campbellsville and Taylor County and road games at Washington County and Danville last week. The Lady Knights improved to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the district.
