  • BASEBALL: Knights beat Pulaski,...

    The Marion County Knights took home a 7-4 win at the Pulaski County Maroons on March 21.
    The Knights were helped by three errors committed by Pulaski County in the top of the first as they jumped out to the early lead. Marion County's only hit of the opening inning came when Luke Thomas' bunt stayed just inside fair territory.

  • Epps pride

    Washington beat the University of Kentucky women in Rupp Arena in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinals on Friday, March 25. Kentucky junior Makayla Epps had 30 points in the NCAA Tournament loss to Washington, becoming just the fifth UK woman to score 30 or more points in an NCAA Tournament game. She finished the season with 546 points, the ninth best single season total in UK history.

  • Expect the unexpected

    You never know what's gonna happen in the NCAA Tournament.
    As is my custom, I filled out my bracket and made my picks. This year, I took more care when I made my picks and did some research on all of the teams. You'd think I'd get a few more right than usual. Obviously, I'm not going to fill out a perfect bracket yet I fool myself into thinking that this is the year.

  • Turkey season opens for youth...

    Hope everyone had a blessed Easter. Of course Easter also means it’s just a very short time until wild turkey season opens. Matter of fact, the 2016 youth season for turkeys opens this coming weekend - April 2-3. It’s a great way to get a youngster into hunting.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Knights offense...

    The Marion County Lady Knights took home an 11-1 victory against the LaRue County Lady Hawks on March 21. The Lady Knights scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back as they won by the 10-run rule.
    Abby Scott had a solid night from the batting box as she went 2-4 and scored two RBIs. She also scored two runs.
    Eighth-grader Haley Mattingly picked up her third win of the season as she struck out five and gave up only one run.

  • TENNIS: Knights notch pair of...

    The Marion County High School tennis teams hit the courts to take on Taylor County on March 23.
    The boys lost their match 8-1 as their only win was by Dylan Bradshaw who won his match 8-3. Marion County could also not secure a win in doubles.
    However, the girls won their match against Taylor by a score of 6-3.

  • Vaught’s Views: Epps continues...

    It was a bit ironic that Washington was the team that ended Kentucky's season by beating the UK women in Rupp Arena in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinals last week.
    Washington coach Mike Neighbors not only dates UK fan Amy Ratliff of Lexington, but he knew plenty about UK junior guard Makayla Epps and how good she is.

  • National archery champion

    Tanner Barker, son of Wes and Lori Barker of Lebanon, competed in the first ever Scholastic 3D Archery Indoor National Championship in Louisville on March 18. Barker won the national championship in the 12-to-14-year-old open class. Barker has been shooting archery for seven years and has won four state championships and now a national championship.   • State competitors

    Kalli Vaughn, Bella Spalding and Shelby Stout with Fit Kids participated in the state gymnastics competition at Nelson County High School in the Excel Gold Division recently. They received a fourth place team award plus individual medals.
