BBB warns of strange phone calls

The Better Business Bureau received phone calls from consumers across Kentucky and Southern Indiana all day Thursday, May 21, saying they were contacted overnight at 3, 4, and 5 a.m. in the morning. It is a robo call saying that their financial accounts have been compromised and to push 1 to continue.   Another scenario is a robo call saying the interest rate on your credit card is going up if you don't do something about it right now, press 1 to continue. When the consumer hits one, it asks for the consumer's account numbers. Obviously, the scammers are trying to catch people "off guard" in the middle of the night. The calls to the consumers aren't coming from any one particular number or area. There are several numbers that have been reported on caller ID's. Again, this scam is hitting consumers across Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Apparently, some banks have reported getting calls from consumers about this today, as well. You may want to check with local banks to see if they have been inundated with calls.

BBB believes this is another attempt to steal people's financial information - and wants to warn the public that they could receive a call like this. BBB doesn't know of anyone who has fallen for the scam, yet. But, there could be someone out there that has, or that could.
