Be safe with yard sale traffic this week

The 400 Mile Sale will take place June 5-8, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet urges drivers to be aware of the added traffic that will be on the roads.
The year is the 10th anniversary of the 400 Mile Sale, which spans US 68 from Paducah to Maysville and includes Marion County.
For more information about locations included on the route, visit 400mile.com or call the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission at 270-692-0021.
Transportation Cabinet officials want to remind drivers that safety should be a top priority on the roads. Drivers seeking yard sales sometimes disregard sight distance, parking conditions and right-of-way, according to the transportation cabinet.
The cabinet also reminds those hosting yard sales that setting up in the right-of-way is illegal. The cabinet also reminds bargain hunters that they should not park where their vehicles are too close to traffic or where they will be blocking other motorists from seeing clearly. When objects block the line of sight, crashes are more likely.
Motorists also are urged to be highly aware of their surroundings, similar to when they are in a construction zone, particularly when they are in areas with a multiple yard sales taking place at the same time, according to the transportation cabinet.
Last, but not least, motorists should not be distracted by electronic devices, and they should slow down and watch for pedestrians.
