Marion County’s cross country team made strides at last week’s Campbellsville Last Chance Meet on Thursday, Oct. 22, when they raced against Campbellsville, Taylor County, Green County, Hart County and Bardstown.
The Knights placed fourth of four team scores, while the Lady Knights placed third of four team scores. The Taylor County boys and Campbellsville girls did not have enough runners to score as a team.
“The girls did really well. We’ve seen a lot of improvement this season,” Head Coach Sherbie King said.
The Lady Knights were led by senior Rae Mills, who placed fourth overall, with a time of 23:27.60. Mills was followed by freshman Laurel Brahm and junior Kaylee Wheatley, who finished 14th and 15th, respectively. Brahm finished in 26:12.76 and Wheatley finished in 26:13.24.
Senior Samantha Daugherty was the Lady Knights fourth runner, finishing in 19th place, with a time of 26:45.84. Freshman Chelsea Brady rounded out the Lady Knight’s top five finishers in 21st place, with a time of 26:54.91.
The Knights were led by sophomore Ty Wheeler, who finished 16th overall, with a time of 21:20.00. Wheeler was followed by freshman Bryce Barnett, who finished 22nd, with a time of 22:10.76. Freshmen Tanner Butcher and Sander Hyatt were the third and fourth runners for the Knights, placing 28th and 29th, respectively. Butcher finished in 23:28.92, and Hyatt finished in 23:55.74. The Knight’s fifth finisher was junior Ethan Higdon, who placed 30th, with a time of 27:23.47.
This was Marion County’s last race before the Region 2 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Russellville.
