Former superintendent dies at 101

Hugh C. Spalding, who served as the superintendent of Marion County schools for 37 years, died Sunday, April 20, at Sacred Heart Village in Louisville. He was 101 years old.
Spalding became the Marion County superintendent when he was 25 years old and remained in that position until he retired. Spalding oversaw the consolidation of Marion County’s high schools and the integration of the public school system.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Bosley Funeral Home, and a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
