Olivia Jones of Springfield was recently selected as a recipient of the 2011 DEKALB® Ag Youth Scholarship. Jones was one of 10 high school and college students nationwide awarded a $2,500 scholarship to help them pursue agriculture-related degrees.
Jones is planning to attend the University of Kentucky to study agricultural biotechnology and prepare for a future career in crop genetics.
The DEKALB brand is committed to developing tomorrow’s young ag leaders. A total of $125,000 has been distributed on behalf of the DEKALB brand to 50 students across the United States since this scholarship was introduced in 2007.
“Monsanto is proud to have a long history of investing in the future of agriculture by recognizing and supporting ag youth leaders such as Olivia Jones,” says Matt Livesay, local DEKALB Territory Sales Manager. “We congratulate our 2011 scholarship winners on their achievement and wish them success in their careers.”

In addition to this scholarship, the brand also sponsors the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, which has recognized outstanding ag students for 64 consecutive years. This program rewards high school seniors who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership and agricultural work experience and elevates them as role models for younger students. Nominees are selected by their FFA advisor, with one student from each school receiving the honor annually.
