LETTER: Community supports St. Baldrick's pre-event

-A A +A

The first St. Baldrick's Music/Food Fest fundraiser in Loretto on March 9 was a huge success. Our goal was to raise $2,000, but after the final tally it was more than $5,000. Wow, what a night of fun, food and fellowship for a very worthy cause. Of course there were numerous behind the scene volunteers that deserve recognition also. I kept hearing what a great job we did, but the truth is, we were just the tools that our Lord was using. We had an angel in heaven, Renee Donahue, watching over everything we did. I think she was proud of it.
Many local businesses generously donated auction items for the event, the Honeysuckle String Band performed and Loretto City Council allowed us to use city hall. We have been asked if we are going to do it again next year. The answer is, of course. So if you missed this year’s event, March 2014 is right around the corner. If you would like to donate to St. Baldrick’s, or shave your head in solidarity with these kids that are fighting this dreadful disease of cancer, come to St. Augustine this Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m.
