After a stunning win against the Danville Lady Admirals, the Marion County Lady Knights went on to fall in two games in the Jaguar Classic.

The defeats dropped the Lady Knights’ record to 5-4 when they lost to the Ryle Lady Raiders, 6-3, and the Madison Southern Lady Eagles, 4-2, on April 12.

According to Gamechanger, freshman pitcher Jordan Thomas dealt three strikeouts in seven innings against the Lady Raiders (7-2) while sixth grade pitcher Haley Mattingly took the mound against the Lady Eagles (9-3) to pitch two strikeouts.

It looked less like a game and more like a slaughter as the Lady Knights mercied out the Danville Lady Admirals, 16-1, in three innings on April 10.

Lady Knights Coach Todd Spalding was happy about the win and said the game was stacked in their favor.

“I thought we took some good swings,” Spalding said.

Besides his team’s performance, he said the Lady Admirals lost several key players to graduation and were not as experienced as Marion County.

Spalding also added it was good to give some of the younger players a chance to play.

Senior outfielder Colleen Rakes opened the game by stealing second and third before being driven in by freshman Allison Maupin.

From there, the Lady Knights would go on a rampage in the second by scoring 12 more runs.

After the team put two on the board, a double by junior catcher Abby Miles would send Maupin and Rakes home.

The Lady Admirals (1-9) responded with one run in the third before Marion County finished the game with two more runs.
