Memorial Day program is Sunday

American Legion Post 49 will be hosting a Memorial Day program at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at Lebanon National Cemetery.
Major General William E. Barron will be the keynote speaker during the program. Barron served in the military for 38 years, including 33 years of service with the U.S. Army Reserve with the 100th Training Division. In the 100th, Barron rose from private to major general and became the division commander. Barron was commissioned as a second lieutenant after he attended the Kentucky Army National Guard Officer Candidate School.
He and his wife, Kelly, reside in Elizabethtown, where he serves as the executive director of the CORE Committee, which aims to protect and grow Fort Knox.
The Marion County Veterans Honor Guard, the Marion County High School JROTC, and the Marion County High School Band will participate in the program. Marion Countians who were killed in action will be recognized, and a wreath will be presented in honor of the last Marion County veteran interred at Lebanon National Cemetery.
