A brand new draft facilities plan was approved by the Marion County Board of Education’s Local Planning Committee (LPC) Tuesday evening.

The $22.5 million plan includes the following:

• A major renovation/addition at Calvary Elementary School;

• Major renovations at Marion County High School, including building an eighth grade/ninth grade wing; and

• Closing Lebanon Elementary School and moving those students to a renovated Marion County Knight Academy.

Several plans were presented during the LPC's meeting Tuesday evening, but the plan described above received the majority of the votes (which were cast via paper ballot).

LPC Parent Member Melissa Knight views this plan as more of a “compromise.”

“You’re getting elementary needs met. And, you’re getting high school needs met, to a certain extent,” Knight said.

This new draft facilities plan, once formally completed by the architect, will go to the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) for its review. After the KDE reviews the plan, another public forum and LPC meeting will take place (date, time and location to be announced).

Much more on this will be reported in next week’s edition of The Lebanon Enterprise.
