The price of progress

-A A +A

What happened? Maker’s Mark Distillery CEO Rob Samuels attended a joint meeting between the Marion County Fiscal Court and the Lebanon City Council on Dec. 21, 2017, and asked the county for industrial revenue bonds (IRBs) to build 10 additional warehouses. By approving the IRBs, Maker’s Mark would be exempt from paying local property taxes until the construction of the warehouses are complete. Magistrates made it clear to Samuels that before the court would be able to make a decision on the IRBs, they would need to know the exact location planned for the warehouses. During Thursday’s fiscal court meeting, that location for the warehouses was officially revealed – 512 Brown Forman Road near Raywick. After nearly an hour of discussion, the court approved the agreement with Maker’s Mark.
