The Marion County Board of Education wants to hear from the community about school uniforms.

The district's uniform/dress code committee has scheduled a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Marion County High School.

Marion County High School Principal Stacey Hall is the facilitator for the committee.

According to the minutes of the committee's Oct. 27 meeting, the consensus was that a  possible uniform could include collared shirts (to include full button down blouses, shirts, oxford shirts), hoodies, button polos and school specific crew neck tees, or Marion County tees. Decisions about colors could be left to each school's site-based decision-making council.

Likewise, the committee also discussed including Bermuda shorts (to knees) and khakis (no clear definition of 'khakis') as part of the uniform. Most committee members were opposed to including sweat pants or athletic shorts in the uniform, although the minutes noted some concerns for larger students and students with special needs.
