  • More than 1,300 Kentucky Farm Bureau members from across the state will gather for the organization’s 91st annual meeting Dec. 1-4 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville. Delegates from all of Kentucky’s 120 counties will assemble for the four-day event to participate in committee meetings, business sessions, award presentations, officer elections and to finalize 2011 priority issues and policy revisions.

  • It is the season for thankfulness but I often wonder why we need a season or holiday to remind us about all the good things we have?
    We have so much more in this country than most of the rest of the world but yet we need to be reminded of it on a yearly basis. Is it that we are spoiled?
    Or, is it that we work so hard year round to get the things that we are continually told we need.
    Or, is it that our neighbors have something we think we need?

  • According to the American Automobile Association, approximately 39.7 million motorists will hit the road during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, a 12 percent increase from 2009.

  • Johanna Marie Blanford and James Fredrick Mudd, Jr. were united in marriage Friday, July 16, 2010 at 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Deacon Joseph Dant officiated the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Paul and Margaret Blanford and Stanley and Shelly Hourigan. Grandparents are Al and Helen Spalding and Carolyn Blanford and the late Joseph Blanford.
    The groom is the son of Fred and Sharon Mudd. Grandparents are the late Phillip and Josephine Mudd and Dortha Mattingly and the late Thomas “Wish” Mattingly.

  • Andrea and Bill Bellis and Richard Taylor, all of Louisville, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Taylor, to Steve Farmer, son of Judy Farmer of Lebanon.
    The bride earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky and is employed by the Jefferson County Public School system at Seneca High School.
    The groom earned a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Catharine College and is owner of Fuel Fitness in Springfield.

  • Linda Wright of Greensburg and Donnie Wright of Scottsville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Crystal Dawn, to Adam Cecil, son of Joseph and Cheryl Cecil of Calvary.
    Wright is a 2005 graduate of Green County High School and a 2009 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College. She is employed by the Greensburg Record-Herald in Greensburg.
    Cecil is a 2005 graduate of Marion County High School, a 2009 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and is employed at Bluegrass Cellular in Columbia.

  • The children of G.W. and Faye Brockman Porter announce their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.
    An open reception in their honor will be held in the fellowship hall at Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church, 4430 Highway 289, Lebanon, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28.
    The couple was married Dec. 3, 1960, at Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church by Bro. Richard Shields.
    They have three daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn and Steve Morris, Janice and Dennis Flygstad and Sherri and Nevin Price; and seven grandchildren.
    They request no gifts.
