• Thomas Franklin "Frankie" Mattingly, 57

    Thomas Franklin "Frankie" Mattingly, 57, Calvary, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at University of Louisville Hospital after a long battle of cancer.

    Born in Casey County March 15, 1952, he was an employee of Marion County Fiscal Court and member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

    He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Herbert and Annie Jacobs Mattingly; a daughter, Tammy Jo Mattingly; two brothers, David and Larry Mattingly; a sister, Virginia Stumph; and a granddaughter, Anna Bell Mattingly.

  • Joseph Donald 'Don' Gunning, 92

    Joseph Donald "Don" Gunning, 92, New Haven, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown after a brief illness.

    Born in Coon Hollow near New Hope in Nelson County Aug. 30, 1917, Gunning was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in the 63rd infantry and was enjoying his retirement from a successful entrepreneurial career in timber, liquor, retail and farming. He was an avid outdoorsman and very active in wildlife management activities on his LaRue County property. He was Catholic by faith.

    William Jackson "Bill" Wicker, 59, Lebanon, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Born Feb. 11, 1950, in Marion County, Wicker was a former employee of Plastic Products in Lebanon.

    He was preceded in death by: his mother, Meryl Hourigan Wicker; stepfather, Spencer Hundley; and a brother, Henry Ray Wicker, who died in Vietnam.

    John William "Billy" Linton, 76, Commercial Ave., Springfield, died at 5:18 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.

    Born in Washington County Aug. 12, 1933, Linton was a retired farmer, former employee of Haydon Mill & Grain Company and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

    He was preceded in death by: his wife, Rebecca Yocum Linton on June 25, 1996; parents, Jack and Susie Baker Linton; three sisters, Isabelle Elery, Alice Baker and Mary Agnes Yocum; and three brothers, Leon, Henry "Dude" and Jimbo Linton.

    Mary Brewer White, 82, Louisville, formerly of the Forkland Community, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Oaklawn Nursing Center in Louisville.

    Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Henderson, White was a retired registered nurse having worked 37 years for the old Kentucky Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Ninth & O Baptist Church and attended Vine Street Baptist Church, both in Louisville.

    She was preceded in death by: her parents, J.H. and Dewis Aldridge Brewer; two brothers, John Brewer and George D. May; and a sister, Ruby Clarkston.

  • Richie J. McClerkin, 30

    Richie J. McClerkin, 30, Campbellsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Taylor Regional Hospital.

    He was preceded in death his father, Ruben Rambus.

    Survivors include: his mother, Mary McClerkin Wilson of Mayfield.

    The funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Fulton County High School Gymnasium with burial in the Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman. Rev. James Roberson officiated.

    Strong Funeral Home in Hickman was in charge of the arrangements.

    She was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Fletcher Peterson; father, William Andrew McFatridge; and mother, Lucy Magdalene Keller McFatridge.

    Artie Lewis McCarty, 86, Springfield, passed away at 10:23 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at the Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center.

    A native of Washington County, she was born on May 5, 1923 to the late Jim and Myrtle Burkhead Lewis.

    She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and a homemaker.

    Preceding her in death was her husband, John Lee "J.L." McCarty on Sept. 28, 1980; a brother, Omer Lewis on Aug. 30, 2002; and a sister Ofia Hardin on Aug. 2, 2006.

    Sister Robert Leona Edelen, 96, Nerinx, died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary, Nerinx.

    The funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Loretto Motherhouse Church, Nerinx, with burial in Loretto Motherhouse Cemetery.
