  • Healthcare CHOICE for all

    There certainly is a lot of debate in Congress as well as small town America about the challenge of reforming healthcare/health insurance in the United States today. An impression that I continue to find missed in the popular media is regarding individual choice by consumers and patients to control our own healthcare outcomes and costs. There is a division that seems to be forming in these discussions about the level of control by the government over these choices, which may impact our healthcare decisions.

  • Hodgenville man dead after motorcycle accident

    A motorcycle accident two miles north of Raywick left a Hodgenville man dead Monday afternoon.

    According to Kentucky State Police, at approximately 3:20 p.m., 61-year-old Lennie Vincent was traveling north on KY 527 on a 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle traveled straight through the curve at the intersection of Brown Mattingly Road and KY 527, off the roadway and struck a barbed wire fence.

    Vincent was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

  • Spragens memorial to be unveiled Thursday

    After more than two years of planning and fundraising, the Spragens Memorial, called "Lives Triumphant," will be dedicated and unveiled at the Centre Square Arts and Culture Center Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.

    Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the center, hear live music, see exhibits, enjoy food and visit with members of the Spragens family. This will be an historical moment commemorating the lives of Gene and Nadine Spragens, two of the community's greatest benefactors.

  • Lebanon man arrested, charged with assault

    A Lebanon man was arrested and charged with assault on July 31 in Campbellsville.

    According to a Campbellsville Police release, officers responded to a report of a fight at Ancil Reynolds Used Cars at about 7:22 p.m.

    Upon arrival, officers found that Ricky Allen, 33, of Campbellsville and Darrell G. Smothers Jr., 19, of Lebanon had been fighting. 

    Smothers had allegedly pulled a knife and cut Allen on his abdomen.

    By the time officers had arrived, Smothers had fled the scene.

  • Lady Knights drop first match

    The Marion County High School girls golf team may be 0-1 in match play so far but Head Coach Danny McFall isn't fazed.

    After all, their only match of the year came against the team that finished fourth in the state last year and lost no players to graduation.

    The Lady Knights played well at Rosewood Golf Course on Thursday night but not well enough to beat a state title contender. Marion County fell to Green County 186 to 167.

    McFall said Green County's top four scores were in the high thirties and low forties.

  • Marion ups Garrad in scrimmage

    Megan Caldwell attacks the net during the Marion County High School volleyball squad took on Garrard County during a preseason scrimmage at the Roby Dome on Tuesday of last week.

    Marion County won 2-0 (25-12, 26-24).
