  • Knights ends season on high note at state meet

    Marion County’s season ended just like it began: dodging weather.

    Thunderstorms forced the Class 2A State Track Meet to be postponed at 5:29 p.m. on Friday, prior to the 100-meter dash. The meet resumed at 4 p.m., Saturday.

    At the state meet, Stephan Salgado finished 14th in the boys long jump with a 18’ 10” distance. He finished 11th in the boys triple jump with a 40’ 9” distance.

    Co-ed volleyball league 

    Graham Memorial Park will have a co-ed volleyball league this summer. Signups will take place at the pavilion located next to the Lebanon Aquatic Center on Wednesday, May 23, from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you are unable to make it that day, text 270-699-5521 with your team name and roster of players. League fee is $50 per team. Teams must turn in a roster sheet and waiver forms before league starts on May 31.Volleyball camp will be held June 11-13 at MCHS.

    Marion County Middle School parent nominations

    Marion County Middle School is seeking minority parent nominations for the 2017-18 school year. The minority parent that is elected will be a part of the principal selection process for the upcoming school year. Nominations can be made until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22. Nomination forms will be available at the front office of MCMS. This will be for parents of current sixth and seventh grade students at MCMS. The election will be held on Thursday, May 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MCMS.

    Tuesday, May 29: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, seasoned cabbage, peach crisp, and wheat roll.
    Wednesday, May 30: Mexican lasagna, buttered broccoli, garlic breadstick, and cantaloupe.
    Thursday, May 31: chicken and rice casserole, buttered spinach, Jell-O cake, wheat roll, and margarine.
    All meals are served with skim milk.

  • Engagement - Tungate, Casey

    Cleo and Alice Tungate of Lebanon announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gayla Tungate, to Thomas Casey, son of Don and Terri Casey of Rolla, Missouri.
    The wedding will take place on June 30, 2018 in Danville. Formal invitations have been sent.

  • New pastor to serve at St. Augustine Church and Holy Name of Mary Church

    On Saturday, May 26, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. will ordain David Joseph Farrell to the diocesan priesthood for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville.  The ordination will take place at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth Street, Louisville.

    I carefully dropped the seeds into the ground, spacing them 12-18 inches apart, per directions.
    “Now, Dr. David, I’m not meticulous like you are. I know you want them in 1 inch of dirt. But, I’m not going to get down on the ground and cover the dirt over them with my hands. I just use my foot for that, like this,” Martha, said, demonstrating how she gently covered the seeds in the soil.
    “That’s fine, Momma Martha, whatever you say.”
