  • Fiscal court meets this afternoon

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to hold a special-called meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, on the second floor of the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for the meeting includes the following:

    • Minutes of the previous meeting

    • Consider reappointment of county officials

    • Consider/approve hiring of maintenance position

    • Consider/approve increasing amount of employee HRA Benny card

  • No school Thursday

    Marion County schools will be closed on Thursday due to the anticipated wind chill.

    According to the National Weather Service, a wind chill advisory is in effect until 10 a.m Thursday, Jan. 8. The weather service is predicting that the wind chill will make it feel like it conditions are between -5 and -10 degrees after midnight and remain near or below zero Thursday morning.

    Anyone who goes outdoors is advised to wear hats and gloves as low wind chills can result in frostbite and hypothermia, according to the weather service.

  • Southland Drive home damaged by fire Wednesday evening

    For the second night in a row, Lebanon firefighters battled a house fire in frigid conditions.

    Firefighters were dispatched to a fire at 5:19 p.m. Jan. 7 to 722 Southland Drive in Lebanon. Firefighters and Marion County EMS remained on the scene until 7:54 p.m. in single-digit temperatures with wind chill that made it feel like it was below zero at times.

  • West Main Street home damaged by fire

     The Lebanon Fire Department was on the scene of a house fire at 330 W. Main Street for more than four hours Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

    The department was dispatched to the scene at 11 p.m. Jan. 6 and remained on the scene until 3:31 a.m. Jan. 7, according to Lebanon Fire Chief Ricky Mattingly.

    The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but Mattingly said they are thinking it was an electrical fire.
