  • Fiscal court approves funding for local athlete, Christmas program

    The Marion County Fiscal Court approved two funding requests during its Dec. 4 meeting.
    The court unanimously approved a total of $1,300 for Marion County High School volleyball player Shelby Goode. Goode is raising money to participate in the Down Under Sports Tournaments next summer in Australia.
    Goode told the court that she needs to raise around $6,000, and she has raised about half of that money already.

  • Sex abuse charges dismissed

    Six counts of first-degree sexual abuse (victim under 12) have been dismissed against Jacob A. Hourigan.
    Hourigan, 35, of 2775 Beech Fork Road in Gravel Switch was indicted in May of 2013. The sexual abuse charges and a charge of second-degree persistent felony offender were dismissed based on new information received by the Commonwealth and in agreement with the alleged victim.

  • Fatality count is up from last year

    During the month of November 2014, there were 21 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.
    There were four fatal collisions during the month of November in the Post 15 area.
    Brian Chesser, age 29, of Willisburg was killed on 11/03/14 in Washington County.
    Veronica D. Greene, age 46, of Summersville was killed on 11/02/14 in Green County.
