    John Louis and Ahnna Morris announced the birth of a 7-pound, 2-ounce son, James David Morris, born June 24, 2014 at Ireland Army Hospital, Fort Knox.
    Maternal grandparents are Judy and Alvin Morris. Paternal grandparents are Kandi and David Bradford.

  • City workers replacing grates in effort to combat flooding

    Late last month, city employees removed debris from a collapsed section of the storm sewer line at the intersection of Main Street and South Spalding Avenue as part of the effort to reduce flooding in downtown Lebanon.
    In spite of their efforts, some downtown businesses still experienced flooding as a result of an Aug. 11 rainstorm.
    City Administrator John O. Thomas said Lebanon received 2.4 inches of rain in 22 minutes during that storm. That's a rate of more than 6.5 inches per hour.

    Thursday, Aug. 14, the Junior Lady Knights travelled to OKH where the seventh and eighth grade teams were defeated.

    OKH won the seventh grade game, 24-18.

    OKH 7th grade 24, SCMS, 18 — Jenny Mattingly 10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal; Katie Mattingly 3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal; Ava Spalding 4 points, 3 rebounds; Kristi Martin 1 point, 7 rebounds, 2 steals; Mckenzie Reynolds 10 rebounds.

  • Elliotts celebrate 50th anniversary


    Bill and Trina Elliott of Danville, both formerly of Lebanon, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with several of their friends at a dinner hosted by Tim and Margie Dievert.
    The couple was married on May 31, 1964, at Lebanon Baptist Church by Rev. Herman Rowlette Sr.
    They have two children, Eric Elliott of Lexington and Jennifer Elliott of Bellingham, Washington, and two granddaughters.
    They are looking forward to celebrating with a trip to Italy in the fall.

    Once again this year, the Marion County Chamber of Commerce will be getting together with its buddies and cookin’ up a few pounds of ham for the Marion County Country Ham Days celebration.

     Marion County-bred filly keeps on winning

    Sunday, Aug. 10, Precocious Beauty won the Empire Breeders Classic for three-year-old pacing fillies at Tioga Downs in New York.  The purse was $244,875.00 and she won the one-mile race in 1:51.1.

     This brings her 2014 earnings to $161,945.00 and her lifetime earnings to $608,637.00.
