  • Tri-County Kentucky United Way includes Marion, Nelson and Washington counties

    Tri-County Kentucky United Way is about to become a reality. After more than a year in the works, the United Way’s annual fall campaign this year will include Marion, Nelson and Washington counties.
    “There is not a more common sense approach to people being there for their hometown communities than through the United Way,” said Kenny Fogle, executive director of the local United Way chapter. “Hands down, this is the best organization for strengthening a community and displaying the old school community spirit of our forefathers and mothers.”

  • Miller is promoted to chief operating officer


    Joe Farley Miller, formerly of Lebanon, was promoted to chief operating officer at Market-Finders Insurance Corporation.
    Miller has worked for the company for 23 years holding the positions of aviation underwriter, senior underwriting manager, and vice-president.
    He is married to the former Kimberly Coulter of Springfield and is the brother of Kathie M. Hilpp and JoAnne M. Wheeler. He is the son of the late Joe and Joey Miller.

  • Blue ribbon winners must enter state fair by July 25

    Blue ribbon entries will be accepted only in culinary, textiles, hobbies, or arts and crafts.
    Only items that meet the requirements of the state fair categories are eligible. All other state fair rules apply. The entry fee is $8 per department, not item. Entry forms must be accompanied by required fee or credit card information. Blue ribbon entry forms which are sent by mail should be postmarked by July 25. From July 25 to Aug. 2, entry forms should be faxed. All blue ribbon entry forms must be in our office by Aug. 2. No entry forms will be accepted after that date.

  • McIlvoys celebrate 40th anniversary


    Brenda and Tommy McIlvoy will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on July 27, 2014. The couple was married July 27, 1974 at Springfield Baptist Church in Springfield by Bro. Bradley.
    Brenda is the former Brenda Milburn. She is retired from the Marion County Board of Education. Tommy is retired from Inoac in Springfield. The couple has one son, Shawn McIlvoy.
    A private celebration will be held.
