  • SOFTBALL: Lady Knights face...

    It will be home cooking for Marion County before Spring Break kicks off. The Lady Knights will hope the weather will finally cooperate to get games in against the Mercer County Titans and Nelson County Lady Cardinals, with both games set to be played on Talley Field.
    The Lady Knights will play Mercer County at 6 p.m., tomorrow, while the Lady Cards will play Marion County at 6 p.m., Friday.

    After dodging the snow and rain that had wreaked havoc on Marion County sports schedules, the Marion County tennis team finally hit the tennis court on Thursday to play the Bardstown Tigers.
    Knights coach Noah Swencki was pleased with his team’s performance to open the season.
    “It was a good start, especially for the girls,” he said.

    His season has not gone exactly the way he hoped so far, but junior pitcher Justin Lewis does like the way one thing is going — the perception of Kentucky baseball.
    “I can tell a big difference. It used to be if somebody asked me I played ball at UK, I knew they meant basketball,” said Lewis, a Georgia native. “Now they let me know that they know I play baseball. That’s really good.

    The sequel to Marion County’s historic 2017 campaign is kicking off with a busy slew of games.
    After the season opener in Elizabethtown against North Hardin and the home opener against Green County, the Knights are back at Dave Hourigan Field Thursday evening to take on the Washington County Commanders. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

    Friday night in Charlotte, North Carolina. No one thought history would happen inside the Spectrum Center. No one thought by the end of the night, the most improbable would happen. The night began with a basketball game between Virginia and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. It ended with the most shocking upset in NCAA Tournament history.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Knights prepare...

    Erin Benton is going back to her high school alma mater.
    Over the weekend, Marion County will travel to Meade County High School for the Meade County Mighty March Matchup. The Lady Knights will play the Assumption Rockets at 8 p.m., Friday. The Lady Knights get the Presentation Toppers at noon, Saturday, and the Holy Cross (Louisville) Cougars at 2 p.m., Saturday.
    “[Holy Cross] was a pretty good challenge for us last season,” Marion County coach Erin Benton said.

  • TENNIS: Knights still waiting to...

    Marion County has been waiting ever so patiently to get on the court for its first match. After the season opener against LaRue County was cancelled due to snowfall, the Knights had another match cancelled on Friday against the Campbellsville Eagles, who said scheduling conflicts their players had with other events prevented them from competing.

  • TRACK AND FIELD: Track team...

    The Marion County track team has been practicing for the past few months as they work toward the 2018 season, which was scheduled to kick off yesterday at the Shelby County All-Comers meet.
    “It will be a great, competitive meet and we'll be able to find out where we stand early in the season,” Coach Daniel Johnson said.
    Johnson is leading the team along with Dallas Robinson, with the duo in their second season coaching the track team together.
