  • What a bummer

It’s Saturday night, and it has been a very long week.

Before I go on, I would like to say I had the majority of a welcome back Marion County Knights and Lady Knights column written up.

But because of the football Knights’ season opener has been rescheduled, I figured the welcome back column could wait a week, but something must be said about Aug. 23.

  • Soccer: Knights beat heat, Eagles

Braving a heat index of 101 degrees, the Marion County Knights (1-1) defeated the Campbellsville Eagles, 5-1, to open their season last week. Sophomore forward Alan Guzman and senior forward Anthony Bradshaw led the Knights’ attack with two goals each while the team ran the trap successfully to catch the Eagles (1-1) off sides seven times.

Knights Coach Greg Conley said though the team won by a large margin, they still have work ahead of them.

  • Soccer: Lady Knights drop 2 of 3...

After losing their first game of the season to the Garrard County Lady Lions, 6-0, the Lady Knights went on to host the Bardstown Lady Tigers on Aug. 20 at the Graham Memorial Park soccer fields. Cutting through puddles and mud, the Lady Knights fell 8-1 in that contest.

After the game, Lady Knights Coach Derek Cissell had only praise for the team, telling them: “Hey ladies, I’m proud of you.”

  • If you can’t beat the heat, just...

This has been one of those weeks where it’s been way too hot for me to do much outdoors!

    So what does one do?

Around here, that’s a question easily answered. There’s always guns to be cleaned. I know, I said clean guns after every hunt, and I do. But, it’s a known fact that guns ca never be too clean!

So, out came the shotguns, rifles and my muzzleloader.

  • Football: Knights opener delayed

Thanks to a sweltering heat index, rain, lightning and thunder, the Marion County Knights will have to wait one more week to get their season underway.

Their game against the LaRue County Hawks in the Alumni Bowl that was scheduled to take place on Aug. 23. was rescheduled for Sept. 26.

  • Marion County/LaRue County...

The Marion County/LaRue County football game originally scheduled for Aug. 23 has been postponed.

The game was scheduled to be played at Washington County High School, but has been rescheduled due to weather conditions.

The game has been tentatively rescheduled for Sept. 26.

  • Football Knights gearing up for...

On Aug. 14, the Marion County Knights, who finished 4-7 last season, scrimmaged the Russell County Lakers. Though the Knights fell in the fray, it gave the community a sneak peak at the team this season.

Interim Head Coach Matthew “Moo Moo” Mattingly said the team has one goal this year: win.

“That’s all we want to do,” Mattingly said.

  • Lady Knights volleyball team...

On Aug. 12, the Marion County Lady Knights went south to hone their skills for their upcoming season. At Washington County Middle School, the Lady Knights scrimmaged the Washington County Commanderettes, the Burgin County Lady Bulldogs and the Bardstown Lady Tigers.
