  • More than a game

Too many people take sports too seriously.

But sometimes, sports are about more than just a game.

During the past few weeks, Marion County athletes have proven that more than once.

Last week, the Knights soccer team defeated Bullitt East, 9-0. The game was never in doubt. Marion County led 5-0 at the half, and they kept up the pressure in the second half.

  • Cardinals grounded

Junior wide receiver Lincoln Haydon and senior running back Justin Dawson scored two touchdowns each to help lift Marion County a win on Homecoming night.

Friday night, the Knights toppled the Taylor County Cardinals, 39-22, and picked up a win in their district opener.

“We had the speed advantage … and that is what allowed us to win the ball game,” Marion County Coach Jeff Robbins said.

  • Eagles, Lady Knights end in a...

The Marion County Lady Knights started well on senior night, taking a 3-0 lead over the North Bullitt Lady Eagles on Oct. 2.

But North Bullitt came back in the second half to earn a tie, 3-3.

“It doesn’t start much better than that,” Lady Knights Coach Devin Johnson said. “You got to finish though.”

  • Over in a flash

A little lightning shortened the Marion County Knights’ match Saturday night, but they had enough time to take a 5-0 win over the Fort Knox Eagles.

The referees spotted lightning as the teams were returning to the field for the second half, which caused a mandatory 30-minute delay. Shortly thereafter, the teams agreed to call the game instead.

  • Two losses for Lady Knights

Central Hardin visited the Marion County Lady Knights on Oct. 1 and returned home with a win. The Lady Bruins won the match in three sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-20.

“We couldn’t pass to save our lives,” Marion County Coach David Hibbard said.

Nevertheless, Hibbard did see a bright spot for the Lady Knights. During the first half of the third set, Marion County was outplaying the Lady Bruins, even forcing them to take a timeout while trailing 17-12.
