    During last week’s Class A regional golf tournament at Lincoln Homestead State Park, a young golfer hit an errant shot and several people saw it land in a bush next to the fourth green. There’s no doubt that the ball went into the bush and never came out.

    The Knights football team battled against Russell County in a scrimmage last week. Though the Knights’ foe did not keep score, the game provided experience for the team and insight to Marion County’s leaders for this weekend’s game.

     Monday, Berea College officially announced that Trent Milby will be the school’s next women’s basketball coach.

    The Lady Knights soccer team defeated the Paris Lady Hounds 2-0 in Berea over the weekend. 

    “Overall, I would say everyone played really well,” Coach Devin Johnson said.

    Both teams went back-and-forth and at halftime, the scoreboard remained 0-0.

    The Marion County Knights soccer team won, 4-3, in a “Soccerama” scrimmage against Pulaski County in Madison County on Saturday.

    “It was a lot more competitive than I thought it was going to be,” Coach Greg Conley said. 

  • Lady Knights serve it up at Roby...

    The Marion County Lady Knights held their own in a four-way battle against Washington County, Pulaski County and Green County last Thursday at the Roby Dome. 

    “I think for the most part we played pretty well,” Marion County Coach David Hibbard said. “We started off a little bit slow but once we got into it, we played pretty consistently.”

  • St. Charles splits season opener

    The St. Charles Middle Lady Knights opened the 2013 basketball season by splitting its games against Taylor County on Aug. 13.

    In the seventh grade game, St. Charles won, 33-21.

    Elise Carpenter led the Lady Knights with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

    Cassidy Logsdon added eight points, 10 steals and four blocks. Katie Mattingly also scored eight points. 

  • Marion County filly wins...

    Precocious Beauty, a 2-year-old pacing filly bred in Marion County, won the $108,922 Eternal Camnation Stake on Aug. 17 at Mohawk Raceway in Campbellsville, Ontario, Canada.

    Jimmy and LaVerne Avritt of MeadowCreek Farm in Marion County bred and own Precocious Beauty.

    The filly set a track record, winning the Eternal Camnation Stake in 1:50.2. This is also the fastest mile this year in North American by a pacing filly, and it was just one-tenth of a second off the world record.
